Heard Museum offers a thoughtful range of accommodations to help every guest feel comfortable. Sensory bags—complete with noise-canceling headphones, fidgets, weighted blankets, and more—are available to check out at Guest Services. Wheelchairs, gallery stools, and assistive glasses are also available upon request.

For a quieter, more relaxed visit, plan to come on a weekday—especially after noon. The museum is typically calm and low-sensory, making it a great fit for those who prefer a more peaceful environment. If you’re looking to avoid crowds, be sure to check the museum’s event calendar in advance, as special events can bring increased activity and energy.

Families will love the Heardlings Family Map and Activity Book, which adds a playful, interactive layer to your visit. Keep an eye out for Archie, the rabbit animal guide, as you explore the galleries together.

Need a break? The Family Activity Room is a welcoming space where kids can move, play, and engage with hands-on activities—perfect for getting the wiggles out before heading back into the galleries. If you are looking for a quieter break, try the Courtyard.

To help protect the artwork, outside food, drinks, and bags aren’t permitted inside the museum (unless medically necessary). Complimentary lockers are available, and you’re welcome to enjoy your own snacks in the Courtyard.

Heard Museum events and festivals are vibrant and amazing. They are also popular and can increase noise levels and crowd sizes. If you’re looking for a more sensory-friendly experience, it’s worth checking what’s happening during your visit.
